2014 Food Trends
In my heart, simple dishes like squid jerky or anchovies are forever staples. Unpretentious and forged in childhood nostalgia, they can be rediscovered as trendy {I hear oily fishes will become spotlights on dinner menus} or not, I don’t care. Their staying power extends further than that overnight cronut but here are a few things the foodie virtuosos are forecasting will be highly coveted.
Shakshuka. A middle eastern staple of poached eggs in spiced tomato sauce.
{My take}
Let’s get…freekeh! …an ancient grain that’s predicted to tromp over quinoa.
Dacquiose. Move over macaron!
Restaurants in retail stores. You can buy your dad a shirt and eat an entire entree for dinner at Tommy Bahamas {with other retails chains following suit}.
Korean foods. Which to me, was always a star. Even Trader Joe’s now carries kimchi, bibimbap, Korean bbq, seaweed salad, roasted seaweed (and I’m certain, more will be added to the mix). A welcome sight for this girl who has a dream that one day, I won’t have to go to 3 or 4 different grocery stores.
What’s something that is forever your favorite whether it be a food trend or not?
There will be a new video up tomorrow
Love,
Your Squishy Monster ^.~

Not necessarily a favorite, but I’ve noticed this year was big on sriracha sauce. My family’s been eating that stuff for ages!
How funny, I was reading about the big food trends for 2014 right before I came to your site!
Did you see that ‘eatertainment’ is supposed to be trendy for 2014 too? The article I read mentioned a restaurant called ‘Ultraviolet’ in Shanghai as an example, but I’m interested to know what ‘eatertainment’ would look like in the United States.

That’s too cool, I’d love to see the states take on that!
That is my favorite condiment, hands down!
Squid jerky will always have a special place in my heart, lol. I hope you do too, Les!
thanks, unni.
I agree baked eggs shall reign supreme in 2014. When I saw kimchi in Trader Joes I was so so happy. It’s not spicy but I just added a little sriracha and its good to go. Last week in DC they opened a new Giant supermarket with a sushi bar.
Well I look forward to the many great recipes from TSM in 2014
G’day Angela! Agree Shakshuka and freekah seem to be an “in thing”, true!
More with celeriac, quinoa flakes and Thermomix recips are take Australia by storm too!
Cheers! Joanne
Thanks for keeping me up to date in the food trends girl! Kimchi seems big and extremely popular here.
ice cream sundaes will always be my food trend favorite. haha
Yay! I love finding out what the new trends will be (and seeing if they come true!)
Well I feel so ‘in’ I am familiar and have prepared all these 3 trends lol. Your shakshuka looks great.
Beyond food, I’m always the last to know about the trends. Glad to know we’re at least ahead of the curb on this =)
I’ll be keeping an eye out, for sure.
Mmm, ice cream sundaes…
I’m happy to hear people embracing it. It wasn’t too long ago when I was constantly asked “what in the world is THAT?”
Your comments always make me smile =)
A girl after my own heart…kimchi + sriracha = love!
Oh yes, move over macaroons..I love simple food with big flavors, and agree with many about kimchi and sriracha.
I couldn’t live without kimchi OR sriracha =)
